"Moved by the Holy Spirit to follow the suffering Jesus, poor man and servant, the specific vocation of members of the Community commits them to direct sharing with the life of the least; living their life with that of the least, shouldering the burden of their situation "
It was precisely this vocation that led, in 1973, to the opening of the first Family Home in Coriano. In order to provide a better response to the needs of the poorest people, especially those who, despite their distress, do not seek us out, and keeping faith with our own vocation, Pope John XXIII Community members never cease to question themselves about new ways of direct sharing. This is why, over all these years, we have conceived and put into practice a number of different centres, in addition to the Family Homes.
In over 35 years, the Community experience has led to another 500 welcoming centres being opened both in Italy and the rest of the world.
In order to do this work we have set up 26 legal entities and some 41,000 people gather at our table every day.
